Hesse in 1970. Interview with Cindy Nemser

"I had gotten to love Jean Godard and had just seen Weekend and I

was as moved as I could be by anything.

When I woke up from the operation, one of my second or third thoughts was film. I had never tried to make a film and I don't know why...

It is connected to my idea of the absurdity of life. I have so little content in my work in terms of reality. For me it is very much that - but it is not visible. It is abstractly that way. And in film, although I'm sure my film would be very abstract, there is some closer connection."

Eva Hesse in conversation with Cindy Nemser, January 1970
